How to prepare for your Spring Portraits

Spring Photoshoot • Chani Gunn Photography• Little Elm Photography

It’s finally time! The weather is beginning to cooperate with our love of getting back outdoors for that beautiful light and pretty greenery. We have longer evenings and more time to run and play and breathe in the fresh air of Springtime! As we look forward into the next few months, it’s time to prep for your Spring portraits, and that’s where I jump in to help.

Some springtime tips to get the most out of your spring photo shoot!

Choose a location that is both beautiful to your eyes, fits a style of your home, or holds a special memory.

Your home? Yes, your home! Picture the colors (flowers, background, textures) of where you want your photo shoot and how those will incorporate into your home and on your walls!

Have a place in mind that reminds you of a special time in your life? Let’s see about shooting there! Try to think of locations that tug at your heart or bring about an emotion that is special to you or your loved ones! Parks, neighborhood trails, a special spot downtown, or even your home or backyard!

Not sure where to even begin when it comes to choosing a location? I can help with that! Also, feel free to look through my portfolio, as well as Instagram and Facebook to see examples of locations that make your heart smile!

Choose outfits that make you feel beautiful and comfortable.

Mommas, the best tip I have given to families is to choose your outfit first. Why? Because usually the old saying is true. “If momma ain’t happy, no one is happy!” But on the flip side, if Momma feels beautiful, all the other outfits can fall into place easier.

While I don’t tell clients what to wear specifically, I will always guide and offer suggestions to help if you’d like!

Choose colors and textures that compliment the season and location, as well as your home! If you are planning on putting images on the wall in your living room, coordinate the clothing of your outfits to fit the color theme of your home.

Pale pinks, soft blues, and cream/beige tones are always a beautiful and classic color combo, and I always recommend staying away from super busy patterns and logos.

Lastly, just enjoy the process.

We all know photoshoots CAN be a little stressful. But to circle back to one of my favorite phrases lately, “It’s just not that serious.” When you are carefree and able to take a breath, your face will show that joy and peace in your photos. Do we all want beautiful smiling faces and gorgeous photographs? Of course! And I can promise you, we will get those for you. If I notice your photoshoot isn’t going in the direction that you would like, I will guide you to pose, relax, and enjoy the session so it can be a fun experience during the shoot and in the final images!

MY job is to stress about the details and do the planning for you. YOUR job is to have fun with your loved ones, smile and laugh, and love the fact that your memories are going to be keepsakes forever!

Blessings and HAPPY SPRING,

Chani
